Here are some of best in tech that I never travel without.
I'm that one friend who insists on photographing everything. I can't let go of the sentimental value that photos have for me and how happy it makes me to look back on everything, good or bad. I always travel with my DSLR and my iPhone 6. If you're not a photo addict like me, I think the new smartphones have great image quality, enough to snap memories for the average person. I use my iPhone 6 for most of my Instagram images.
If you want to up your photo game, consider getting a DSLR or a mirrorless camera. I have a Canon T3i and the standard 18-55mm lens and another 50mm lens, but thinking back I would rather have gotten the T5i at least, since the new build is much, much lighter. I know many people have turned to a mirrorless camera since it is so much lighter and practical with amazing image quality. (I've heard good reviews about the Sony Alpha and Olympus OM-D I also have a GoPro Hero4 Silver, which I take on more adventurous trips (Cancun & Tulum, Greece). I've also debated getting an Instax, but at this point I think it would be too many cameras to lug around.
Sometimes to get the photo you want, you just gotta do it yourself. Whether it's taking a photo of just yourself, a large group, or even just scenery, this GorillaPod tripod is the best at adjusting to every type of surface and giving that angle you really want. I rather travel with a tripod than a selfie stick--I found a selfie stick hard to angle exactly how I want. This smartphone mount also makes any tripod compatible with your smartphone!
IPHONE / SMARTPHONE
This one's obvious but too essential to leave off the list. Even if you're not the type of person to stay glued to your phone 24/7, it's useful to have a smartphone on you to look up directions and things to do in a new place, to take pictures, to translate words, etc.
I never leave my house without this battery pack. I love this Poweradd one since it can charge my iPhone around 5x and my iPad mini around 2.5x. I've had it for over a year and I've found it reliable and high quality, and plus, it's at a great price. I can't tell you how many times it's saved my life since I was able to keep my phone alive to contact my friends or look up directions while traveling. This battery pack is also compatible with my GoPro and other random electronics, anything that can connect with a USB.
This AmazonBasics brand iPhone cable works just as well as the Apple brand and is a fraction of the price. I originally bought this because I kept losing my cables while traveling, and thought the original Apple ones were way too expensive. My friends have been using this AmazonBasics one for years and have had no complaints. I also love the longer version because, why not?
These noise cancelling headphones help me instantly knock out on planes/trains and stay asleep, instead of waking up to kids screaming, random flight announcements, and whatever else. The sound quality on these Bose headphones are also insane and sure to satisfy those audiophiles out there. I also love how soft the leather on the ear cushions are, they certainly feel luxurious and are worth the higher price tag.
UNIVERSAL TRAVEL ADAPTERS
UNIVERSAL TRAVEL ADAPTERS I never go to another country without bringing one of these. I love that they can convert any strange outlet to another strange outlet. Here's a high quality one that I love, especially since it has two USB connectors, but for a more affordable option, try this one. I bought 2 a couple years ago and have been using them faithfully ever since.
IPAD / TABLET
IPAD / TABLET I try my best to not lug a laptop around, especially because it gets heavy and I never really get around to using it. I only take a laptop if I have to work while traveling (which I try to avoid when on vacation) and use my iPad mini instead. Main uses that make it better than a laptop or smartphone:
1) A screen to watch TV shows and movies (Netflix and Amazon Instant Video are great for on demand streaming)
2) Save podcasts to listen offline (my iPhone is always seriously full on memory)
3) Doodle (Paper is my favorite drawing app)
4) Read books while in transit
I love playing loud music in the hotel while I get ready in the morning, while I'm lying out at the beach or at a park for a picnic. This portable speaker is not only pretty but highly functional with loud, high quality sound.
