I had high expectations for Bluestone Lane, which had been on my must explore list for the longest time. When I finally got to visit, it was love at first sight. It was as though the cafe was made for me. The entire cafe was impeccably designed, and I loved their theme of blue and turquoise. (You can tell by my Instagram that bright blues are among of my favorite colors) The atmosphere was relaxed, combined with a fun and active punch. There was an unmistakable elevated beach vibe, which fittingly reminded me of Australia.
I was greeted by Joe at the counter, who took the time to explain their menu. For coffee, they excel at the flat white. Flat whites are similar to a latte, but with more espresso and less milk. The milk is more velvety and consistent throughout the drink. Joe explained that back in Australia, flat whites are ubiquitous and he was amazed they weren't well known in the US. He loves seeing people try it for the first time, since coffee is such a ritual that people don't usually change up.
Another Australian coffee creation that Bluestone Lane serves is the magic, which is similar to the flat white, but has more milk. Joe served it up for me to try for the first time. I tend to douse my coffee in milk, so I absolutely loved it. I found my go-to drink!
The West Village cafe location is not just a coffee shop, but serves full brunch, lunch, and wine. I love their healthy options like the granola with avocado (Brekkie Board) and eggs with prosciutto and argula (Egg Cup Sliders).
I especially love sitting outside, healthy food and al fresco dining go so well together.
Joe also spoke about how he hopes to bring Australian culture to New York. It starts with coffee and avocado smash, served with a friendly and relaxed Aussie demeanor. You can tell that the rest of the Bluestone Lane staff brings the same positive attitude.
Be sure to check out their other coffee shop locations spread out throughout New York City!
