I had Budapest on my bucket list after I had seen pictures from my photographer friend's trip to Hungary a few years ago. Fortunately Budapest was on our list for the summer as a stop between Italy and Greece. We had just spent a whirlwind 3 nights in 3 different cities (Milan Pesaro, Comelico) when Mattia and I arrived in Budapest to spend one night before leaving for Athens the next day.
We spent only about 20 hours there in total (8 of it sleeping), but I absolutely loved it.
After checking into our Airbnb, Mattia and I wasted no time making our way to the Danube River for the sunset. We crossed the Chain Bridge and rushed up the Castle Hill Funicular before we lost all the light. The city looked especially magical from the top of the hill, especially as the sun disappeared and the city lights started to twinkle.
The next morning we grabbed breakfast in the District VII neighborhood and after decided to venture to the Gellert bath to combat the 100-plus-degree heat. It was incredibly refreshing and relaxing. I jumped from pool to pool and spent a long time in the sauna and jumping into the cold water tub afterwards. I never realized how refreshing the sauna routine was! On our way home we ate Hungarian food at a cute restaurant called Puli before heading to the airport.
Next time I'm hoping to spend a lot more time and learn much more about Hungary.
