For our trip to Santorini, Greece, I surprised Mattia by booking our stay at the Vedema Resort. We were greeted at the airport by the friendliest driver for our complimentary personal shuttle service to the hotel. Once we arrived to check in, we were immediately welcomed with big smiles and refreshments. The warm welcome extended to a bottle of white wine, fresh flowers, and delicious chocolate cake, waiting for us in our suite.
It was love at first sight—Vedema was gorgeous. Flowers were sprinkled throughout the resort, sometimes covering entire buildings and entryways. I felt like I was in a floral paradise, as my dream is to someday have a house covered in bougainvilleas!
Waking up to their breakfast buffet selection was amazing. Mattia and I started each morning by the pool with a freddo cappuccino and our favorites from the buffet. The freshest fruit, delicious Greek yogurt with honey, and their yummy pastries were the highlights of their expansive selection.
Vedema is located in Megalochori village, which is towards the southwest part of the island. I liked that it was more or less halfway between the more popular Santorini towns and beaches. And though Megalochori is not as busy as the more popular towns Thira and Oia, the secluded location made the stay more private and relaxing.
Mattia and I rented a car through the hotel’s trusted rental car partner (at a very reasonable price!) to explore Santorini. We also had the option to use Vedema's free daily shuttle service to and from some of the beaches and other towns.
Vedema also has a partnership with Black Rose Suites, a beachfront hotel in Perissa Beach (more commonly known as the black sand beach), which is about a 15-minute drive away. This partnership gets you free access to Black Rose's private beachfront, complete with cushioned benches under umbrellas, towels, and food/drinks service that you can charge to your Vedema tab.
Overall, Vedema had a bright and cheery vibe, akin to Greek hospitality. Our only regret was not spending enough time at Vedema because we were so busy exploring Santorini! Mattia even mentioned that booking the resort was one of the sweetest surprises I had ever given him.
