As happy as I was to visit Mattia in London back in April of this year, a part of me had hoped that he had found an internship in different place. I had already been to London a couple times before, and I wasn't too excited to go to a place colder than New York.
London is one of the cities that I like, but not love. I remember when I returned from my first trip there about 5 years ago, I was head-over-heels smitten with the place. I could even picture myself living there someday. Fast forward a couple years and a few trips later, my love had faded.
I thought that I would return from this trip with a renewed adoration for the city. Many friends and work colleagues insisted that London was wonderful and even a California native could fall in love despite its lack of sunshine. I tried by best to come into the trip with a blank slate and positive outlook. However, I was reminded again of how cold, dreary, and expensive the place could be.
Though I think that London has its own unique beauty and amazing energy, it's definitely not on the top of my list of favorite places in the world. And don't get me wrong, there are definitely things I love about the city, but it's just that I don't love the entire city as a whole.
What do you think of London? Am I totally wrong to like it and not love it?
