I went to Portland with a couple friends for a weekend in September. It was three days of awesome street food, lots of coffee, and way too many donuts.
There were two main highlights of the trip. The first was a night at the Multnomah Whiskey Library. The bar had a huge library of whiskey, with bottles all stacked up neatly on high shelves that never seemed to end. It's just amazing that there are so many different types of whiskey in the world! My friends and I had fun trying out different kinds. Our favorite so far is a Japanese whiskey Yamazaki.
The second was a day trip to forest just 30 minutes outside from the city. Living in New York makes me deprived of nature so I was really happy to spend a quiet day in the woods. We first stopped by Multnomah Falls (obligatory), which was only about a 10-minute walk to the falls. We then spent the rest of the day hiking up the Columbia River Gorge to the sound of splashing salmon. I was so mesmerized by the salmon fighting their way upstream for mating season, it was strangely calming. I spent way too much time staring at them splashing around that my friends almost left me behind!
Even though I had only 3 days in the city, I loved every bit of it. I can't wait to return to explore more!
