You guys have probably heard this one too many times, but summer is my absolute favorite season. A part of the reason lies in summer fashion. My wardrobe is around 80% summer despite the fact that I live in New York and they're only in use for 3 months out of the year. Starting in April and May, I get way too excited and start browsing stores, websites, instagram...and maybe overspending a bit on cute summer outfits. It makes me super happy to shop and envision outfits at the beach and on summer trips abroad...it sure beats shopping for thick jackets that remind me of the horrors of cold NY winters!
I wanted to share with you all some of my favorite trends this season and some ideas on spicing up your summer closet. After all, if you're going to take a fun summer vacay and take beautiful photos to remember the good times, why not pack some awesome outfits?
Playsuit / Romper
I love how easy it is to style playsuits and rompers, you just slide one on over your swimsuit and you're good to go! They're more playful than dresses since you can comfortably sit with your legs open or in the Indian style without worrying about flashing anyone. I've been absolutely loving anything with tassels or poms, floral details, or stripes.
Everyone and their mother, and of course, I have been infatuated with denim this year. Denim in all colors, in all forms, in all shapes and sizes, we don't discriminate. There's been such a fresh take on some of the 90's and 00's denim trends recently and it's been a fun nostalgic trend. I'm still on the hunt for more and more denim!
My favorite new item for the spring was bodysuits and this carried over into the summer. All those crop tops I paired with high waisted bottoms have now been replaced with bodysuits. Though they don't peep your midriff like crop tops, they hug your figure in a subtly sexy way, and allow for my personal favorite feature, no tucking and retucking, and no wrinkles throughout the day!
Off the shoulder
This season I realized how sexy the cold shoulder was. That little display of skin right above your biceps really adds mystique to an otherwise dull outfit.
I've been wearing a TON of floral in the past few years and it's been refreshing to obsess over another pattern: stripes. All striped everything please! I can't stop buying striped pieces, they look so effortlessly chic while not being too overtly feminine.
I professed my love for one pieces in my Spring Favorites post and I had to bring it up again. Functionally, I love how forgiving it is to your stomach and how you don't have to worry about anything popping out when you dive into waters. Aesthetically, I love how the silhouette allows for creative shapes and cuts.
A quick shout out to turkish towels: they're beautiful, take up less space than a traditional beach towel, and dry a lot faster. I always pack one to use at the beach or pool, though they can also be used as a normal shower towel too. Convert asap!
